75 Years of Weir House
1933–2008
Seventy five years ago Weir House opened as Victoria University College’s first hall of residence. To celebrate this anniversary and the part Weir has played in the life of the University and of the city a reunion is planned for 14-16 November in Wellington.
There is much to celebrate. Weir House has always attracted some of the liveliest and most able of Victoria’s students – men only for the first forty-five years, then from 1979 both sexes – and former residents are found among Victoria’s most illustrious alumni. I have every confidence this pattern will continue into the future.
I enclose an exciting programme of events to mark this anniversary including tours of the University, a Weir House debate and open day, an international evening and even croquet.
These celebrations will provide a great opportunity to meet with contemporaries, relive former days and celebrate your part in Weir House's history.
While never a resident I was privileged to learn something about the Weir House way of life during my time as Warden from 1964 to 1968. I have very warm memories of that time, and I look forward to meeting with many former residents and staff this November.
Register online, and encourage friends to contact us on alumni@vuw.ac.nz if they missed out on receiving this invitation.
I look forward to seeing you in Wellington this November.
With kind regards,

Emeritus Professor Tim Beaglehole
Chancellor
