Microsoft Access allows you to create databases to store information and data so that it can be conveniantly retreived and analysed.

In this course you will plan and create a simple, one table database using Access 2003.

This course introduces you to:

  • planning a database
  • creating a database
  • creating tables
  • defining data types, a primary key and data entry
  • entering data and forms
  • retrieving data and the Report Wizard
  • simple queries.

Assumes good PC skills, no previous experience using Access is required.

Access Basics 2: Queries and Relationships

This follow-up course builds on Access Basics 1 by looking at multiple-table, databases.

In this course you will learn how to integrate the database components: tables, queries, forms and reports, and develop the skills to build an efficient user interface. The result is a database which is easy for anyone to use.

Topics covered introduce you to:

  • defining relationships between tables
  • maintaining referential integrity between tables
  • creating tables from query results
  • using macros to perform multi-part operations
  • using forms to activate macros
  • designing queries to alter database content.

Assumes basic Access skills, as provided by Access Basics 1 or equivlalent knowledge.

Macromedia Freehand is industry standard software used for graphic design for print or on the web. It can be used to create flyers, pamphlets and other publications. Freehand can also to create graphics, for example, logos and other company branding.

This course introduces you to Freehand and it’s features.

NVivo Basics 1: Working with Data and Basic Analysis

Researchers require an efficient tool to manage and analyse qualitative data, and explore complex ideas with ease.

NVivo 7 is the very latest in qualitative data analysis software by QSR International, and combines their two previously popular packages, NUD*IST 6 (N6) and NVivo 2. SPSS Basics

SPSS provides a powerful system for the management, statistical analysis and presentation of data.

This interactive workshop introduces the basic functions of SPSS and teaches the skills necessary to perform a variety of statistical functions.

This course covers:

  • navigating around the SPSS software
  • creating a new data set and entering data
  • importing data eg from MS Excel
  • defining variable properties including value labels and missing value codes
  • data transformations eg compute and recode variables
  • calculating descriptive statistics and other statistical procedures
  • creating tables, charts and graphs
