Inequality, Sustainability, Policy : Geography Across the Divide
July 2-5, 2008
You are warmly invited to attend the NZGS 2008 conference to be held at Victoria University of Wellington July 2-5, 2008 (click here for a map to the conference venue and here for a map of the venue). The conference theme - 'across the divide' - has been designed to encourage dialogue across the various branches of our subject, with disciplines beyond geography, and with educators, policy makers and practitioners. As such, we strongly encourage non-geographers and those involved in aspects of geographic education at any level, together with academics from across the geographical world, to attend. We intend to reflect, principally, on the potentially progressive role of geography in deriving perspectives and designing solutions to contemporary local and global problems. We will also be offering fascinating fieldtrips in and around our beautiful capital city, together with a busy social calendar including diverse food and music.
We have chosen the Honey Bee as our mascot because it perfectly represents the conference themes. Though the highly hierarchical beehive is rife with inequality, the honey bee is a symbol of the sustainability of healthy environments, while the architectural icon "The Beehive" is at the heart of New Zealand's policy making.
We hope that you are able to attend.
A/Prof Warwick Murray and Dr David Kennedy, Conference Co-chairs
