On this site you will find lots of ideas for physics classroom demonstrations and activities specifically designed by New Zealand teachers for New Zealand teachers, purpose-built for the New Zealand physics and science curriculum from Year 8 - first year university. Year 8 is age 12-13 years. Resources from the VUW Scholarship Physics Workshop 29 September 2009: Many New Zealanders think that science is something done by other people in other places, mostly overseas. Nothing could be further from the truth. New Zealand is a physics powerhouse per capita, and our continued success requires participation by all segments of New Zealand society. To ensure this happens we have a unique approach: we provide multimedia resources starring New Zealand secondary students and university students doing, obviously enjoying, and explaining physics to their mates in English and te reo Maori. Resources from the second phase of the TPK-funded Te Reo Maori Physics Project are now posted with an emphasis on light waves and properties of materials. A larger collection is under development. Resources developed through this project will continue to be distributed through this web site. Resources are available for NCEA level 1 - 3 Physics, NCEA level 1 - 3 Science, and junior science. Many of our resources have been developed in cooperation with New Zealand teachers, and all of our resources are available freely for anyone to use (copyright statement). Use the resources and get involved in making resources with us if you wish! To play our videos we recommend Apple QuickTime, available as a free download for both Mac and PC, but other players will work as well. Click here for more information. Teachers Please contribute your own demonstrations to our web site. We will link to your web page and/or your school's web page. If you are in the Wellington area or can travel to Wellington we will be happy to help you and your students set up and film the demonstrations. We can sometimes help teachers in other parts of New Zealand develop demonstrations as well. The Development of this resource bank is sponsored by
