Food and Water.

Notes by Don French
New Zealand's major cities are now well serviced by supermarkets stocking food suitable for most ethnic types, with only Japanese foods harder to find. Outside the major cities it may be difficult to find non european foods. Prices tend to rise with the extra cartage costs.
Specialist freeze dried food is expensive and usually available at outdoors shops. The local product "Alliance" is very good. The usual weight allowance for food on expedition trips is between 750 and 1000 grams a day per person.
Water can be taken as drinkable just about anywhere. Signs will be found in some regions where traces of Giardia have been found.
