CLIMBING GUIDE FOR THE NELSON LAKES REGION
logoClimbing Guide for The Nelson Lakes Region.

By Simon Noble, (1995).

This is an inexpensive 20 page guide covering non-technical routes in the Nelson Lakes National Park, and was compiled for the 1994 NZAC climbing camp in the Travers valley. This guide describes climbs in and around the Nelson Lakes National Park, a scenic region unfettered by development or crowded as some mountain regions are. Most climbs are approached on foot up forested valleys and then through fields of tussock and scree. There are many tracks and huts. Although the landscape bears the mark of glacial erosion, there are no modern glaciers and the peaks rise to just 2000-2300 metres. The guide is available from the NZAC Head Office, the Nelson - Marlborough Section, from outdoor shops in Christchurch, Wellington and Nelson, from the DoC office in Nelson or from the author at 147 Washington Road, Nelson.
