Blue Mountains Biking

In January 1999 I went to Sydney for the Online/ On Disc 99 Conference, but took my mountain bike over the weekend before and explored the Blue Mountains. Thanks to the good information I was able to glean from The Fat Hippy's mtb, Blue Mountains rides & lights pages I was able to get an early flight from Wellington, the train up from Sydney, and do a Saturday afternoon ride out along Narrow Neck (pretty good as a day trip from Wellington!). Spent the night at Gearin's Hotel and the next day followed the Anderson's Fire Trail and the Oaks Ride down to Glenbrook, and got the train back to Sydney.

Looking out from the end of the Narrow Neck track, towards Lake Burragorang (a plaque visible on the right hand side commemorates someone who fell off this edge!)
Bush flower (Lambertia Formosa, otherwise known as a Mountain devil) on the Narrow Neck track.
Water hump on the Anderson's Fire Trail. Rather than just putting a narrow drain across the track to get rid of water, the Australians go for these ditches and humps - once you have confidence, you can do amazing jumps off the far side!
Queen Victoria Creek crossing on the Anderson Trail.
Frog cooling off at Bedford Creek on the Anderson Trail.
Rock whorls at The Circles on the Oaks trail.
Pre-European hand prints at Red Hands cave, off the Oaks trail.
